We have an exciting opportunity for four young boys to join the Winchester College Chapel Choir in September 2022 as Quiristers. We are now recruiting for boys who are currently in Year 4. Auditions will take place next March, but we would be delighted to hear from any boy who is interested and would like to meet with the Director of Chapel Music informally.
When William of Wykeham founded Winchester College in 1382 he made provision for 16 young boys between the ages of 9 and 13 to sing in the Chapel. The school has maintained this same choral foundation for more than 600 years and the Quiristers, or Qs as they are usually known, form a vital part of Winchester College’s Chapel Choir.
The Quiristers perform regularly in the UK and have a busy schedule, alongside their weekly services singing in Chapel. Recent projects have included recording for BBC Radio 3, concerts in Birmingham Symphony Hall and recording at Abbey Road Studios.
Mr Howard Ionascu, Director of Chapel Music commented, ‘This is a wonderful and unique opportunity for any boy who loves to sing. In addition to forming close friendships and having huge amounts of fun, Quiristers are trained to a professional standard, performing in some of the most prestigious venues, both in the UK and overseas.’
Quiristers are educated and board at The Pilgrims' School and receive a 40% bursary towards the fees, with further means-tested bursary provision available for those who require it.
Please contact Mr Howard Ionascu, Director of Chapel Music to find out more.
