We spend time getting to know each prospective family during the admissions process. It is a unique system, focused on potential, not merely prior attainment. It is based substantially on interview and ensures that by the time your son starts, they will often have had a number of years to get to know us.
We welcome pupils to our Sixth Form to study alongside other ambitious girls and boys and to make the most of everything Winchester has to offer. Pupils benefit from expert teaching and small class sizes across our A Level curriculum, and enjoy sports, music, arts and a wide range of extra-curricular activities, in a beautiful environment.
Boys join as full boarders or day pupils; girls as day pupils. We look forward to welcoming girls as Sixth Form boarders in two new purpose-built boarding houses from September 2026.
Is ability more important than background? Our founder believed so, and we follow his example. The attitude of every pupil matters most at Winchester, not their family's means.
Our examination and interview process looks for academic potential, irrespective of your child's previous educational setting.
Especially bright pupils may be invited to take part in Election, the academic scholarship exam. This may reward them with a Scholarship in College or an Exhibition place in another boarding house.
These are awards for particularly talented musicians or athletes.
Our experienced Admissions Team provides you with the individual support and care needed to guide you through our highly personalised admissions process.
Our Housemasters are also available to talk to parents and pupils about their houses and answer any specific questions you may have, which we hope will help you decide which boarding house will be right for your child.
Our prospectus sets out the ethos of the school and the highlights of life at Winchester.
We invite you to join us for a view of life and learning at Winchester College.
