Callum Barnes

Head of Design & Technology and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

Working in the ‘Mill’ as part of the Design & Technology department, we get to see the boys’ ideas come alive, from early concept through to completion. It’s a very satisfying process and one many boys go on to pursue at university, whether that’s studying industrial design, engineering, or architecture.

As assistant housemaster in Du Boulay’s (Cook’s), I tend to eat most of my evening meals with the boys as well as several lunches during the week. It gives me the opportunity to catch up with them on their day, talk about things that are coming up or general conversations on unexpected topics! In addition, I’m in the house at least once a week, spending time with my tutees to support with their academic or pastoral needs.

The House team work very closely together, documenting observations or conversations with the boys that others may need to be aware of, and we have a weekly meeting to highlight concerns and pupil successes. The boys are often surprised at how much we know!
