House from Home: Morshead's (Freddie's)

2nd March 2021

The House from Home series has been running through lockdown in the UK to offer a boy's-eye view of each of the eleven houses at Winchester, exploring their individual characters and what makes each one unique.

Located near to Kingsgate Park’s sporting facilities and the Grade II listed Music School, is Morshead’s. Popularly known as Freddie’s, it was founded by first Housemaster Frederick Morshead (1868-1905), who himself had been a College man at Winchester and later became Mayor of Winchester.

Today, Freddieites enjoy the use of a snooker room and a grass tennis court at the house, and recently have achieved a number of successes in inter-house competitions of various kinds.

The video below offers a humorous and heartfelt insight into the sport, music and mischief of the house, created by Oscar Dunfield-Prayero (MP).
