Gold medal chemistry student to represent UK for second time

28th April 2021

Rtvik Patel (VI Book 1, College) has been selected to represent the UK at the International Chemistry Olympiad for a second time.

The UK Chemistry Olympiad is an annual competition aimed at pupils in their final year of school. This year 7,160 students from 666 schools in the UK submitted scripts for the very demanding Round One paper. Nine Wykehamists achieved Gold medals in this round, including Rtvik's near-perfect score of 84/85, and remarkable performances by three other boys in V Book (Year 11), who took the paper two years early.

Rtvik attended Round Two of the UK competition over the Easter holidays, and for the second time has been selected as one of four young people to represent the UK in the International Chemistry Olympiad. COVID restrictions mean that Rtvik will be unable to travel to competition, this year hosted in Japan, so he will instead sit the five-hour theory exam remotely in July.
